For anyone interested in joining the club there are two routes...
Those who have not played tennis to a club standard before or who haven't played for a while and would just like to shake the rust off are advised to come along to our adult coaching sessions. These sessions are all aimed at improving tennis skills to a club level and offer a natural progression to full club membership.
For more details on adult coaching courses currently available, please see our Adult Coaching Page
Those who have played tennis to a club level previously are initially invited along to social club evening or match practice night in order to have an informal and relaxed assessment of their current level. Following this we can then advise on how you can get the most out the club, which in most circumstances will be an invitation to join as a full member and some advice on how to get involved.
Members have access to courts and clubhouse facilities at all times. The courts are available to members only and are not hired out to the general public.
Most evenings are designated as club play from 7pm onwards, meaning just turn up and have a game. This style has been at the core of our club for now over 100 years and really helps create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Outside of these hours and any other organised play, a court booking system is used in order to ensure court time is available fairly to everyone.
Over the summer we enter a number of teams (at one point the most in the county) into the Avon Summer League providing opportunities for competitive play. Matches take place on Friday evenings, with match practice for team spots running on Mondays over the same period. Other competitions entered include Avon Winter League, Avon Veterans League and National Club League, running at various times across the calendar year.
Internal club competitions take place in various forms. Alongside the annual club singles and doubles tournaments, we also run regular tournaments of a more relaxed nature that usually involve some form of handicapping or unusual rules to get everyone involved and give all entrants a fair chance.
Upon joining we supply a virtual membership handbook, which provides details on all aspects of the day to day club so you will know how everything works.
Membership fees are paid on an annual basis every November.
