New Community Defibrillator installed at the tennis club

Good news is that the Club now has a new defibrillator. It is situated on an outside wall of the clubhouse so can be accessed by the community as well as club members.

One of our club members, Dave Baker, did some research and found the club could purchase the defibrillator from DHSC Community AED grant team under a match funding scheme. The Parish Council awarded the club a grant towards the cost and the remaining funding was from club funds.

As I’m sure you know a defribillator is a device that gives a jolt of energy to the heart when someone’s heart stops beating.  There are around 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests a year in the UK so the more defibrillators people have access to the better!

People often worry that they will not be able to use the defibrillator, but anyone can use one.  You do not need training. Once you turn it on, it gives clear step by step voice instructions to follow.

The other concern is giving a person a shock when they don’t need it. In fact, the device checks the person’s heart rhythm and will only tell you to give them a shock if it is needed.

The strange thing is that now we have the defibrillator in place we hope that we will never have to use it. However, it is very reassuring to know that it is there if ever we do!

If you would like to see more on how to use it this is a very good short video to watch.
