Policy Statement

CHLTC is committed to prioritising the well-being of all children and adults at risk and promoting safeguarding in our club at all times, including all programmes and events we run. This policy aims to minimise risk, deliver a positive tennis experience for everyone and respond appropriately to all safeguarding concerns/disclosures.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Not responding to a Safeguarding concern is not an option.

All members, visitors and guests present at the club are responsible for upholding the policy and the Code of Conduct specified below.

All coaching staff will be DBS checked and have attended courses that provide an appropriate level of instruction on Safeguarding responsibilities. All coaches at CHLTC are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct set out below.

This policy will be reviewed annually.

Code of Conduct

• Prioritise the well-being of all children and vulnerable adults at all times
• Be a positive role model. Act with integrity, even when no one is looking
• Help to create a safe and inclusive environment both on and off court and promote the Fair Play values, particularly enjoyment and respect
• Value and celebrate diversity and make all reasonable efforts to meet individual needs
• Keep clear boundaries between your professional and personal life, including on social media
• Check you have the relevant consent from parents/carers, children and adults before taking or using photos and videos
• Ensure your own roles and responsibilities, and those of everyone you are responsible for, are clearly outlined and everyone has the information, training and support to carry them out
• Where possible, do not be alone with a child or adult at risk
• Do not abuse, neglect, harm or discriminate against anyone; or act in a way that may be interpreted as such.
• Report any concerns you have in accordance with the LTA guidelines.

Raising Concerns

Anyone who is concerned about the well-being of a child/adult at risk, or has a disclosure of abuse or neglect made to them must report the matter as set out in the LTA’s guidance in Appendix 1 (Reporting a Safeguarding Concern within the Tennis Environment). In brief this means:

• Calling the Police (999) if someone is in immediate danger.
• Otherwise contacting the club Safeguarding Lead Ian Alexander in the first instance on 07801 910829
• If he is unavailable at that time, seeking advice from the LTA Safeguarding Team, the NSPCC or the Local Authority Child/Adult Services.
